Japanese automaker continues relying heavily on the Innova MPV series for much of its business in India in August 2026
Most car manufacturers in India saw solid growth in sales in August 2026, but Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) was among the few exceptions. The company’s sales remained close to the volume it recorded in August 2025, with Innova being its top seller.
TKM delivered 28,410 cars last month, which, compared to the same month in the preceding year, marked a 3% decline. For reference, the company had sold 29,302 cars in August 2025. The Innova, including the second-generation ‘Crysta’ model and the third-generation ‘Hycross’ model, continued to hover around 9,000 units.
In total, 8,963 Innovas were sold in India in August 2026, 4% less than in the same month last year (August 2025: 9,304 units). The Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the corporate cousin of Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza, saw its sales decline 10% year-on-year in August 2026, falling from 9,100 units to 8,234 units.

The Fortuner, including the Legender version that is marketed as a separate product in India, was the third-highest-selling model in August 2026. TKM delivered 3,504 units of the body-on-frame D-segment SUV last month, 40% more than in August 2025 (2,508 units). The Urban Cruiser Taisor was fourth on the sales chart, with 2,863 units delivered. The rebadged Maruti Fronx saw a 7% year-on-year improvement in sales (August 2025: 2,683 units).
The Rumion, the rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga, registered 2,396 units in sales last month. The Glanza, based on Maruti Suzuki’s old Baleno and set to be facelifted on 14 October, saw a 71% year-on-year sales decline. Compared to 5,102 units in August 2025, only 1,480 units were delivered in August 2026.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella, TKM’s first electric car and a corporate cousin of Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara, registered only 372 units in sales in August 2026. The Hilux contributed 285 units to TKM’s August 2026 sales, growing 10% year-on-year (August 2025: 260 units). The Camry’s sales increased by 23%, reaching 195 units (August 2025: 158 units).
Moving to CBU imports, TKM delivered 79 units of the Vellfire and 39 units of the Land Cruiser 300 in August 2026. Compared to the same month last year, the executive MPV’s sales declined by 24% (August 2025: 104 units) and the full-size body-on-frame SUV’s sales increased by 160% (August 2025: 15 units).
