Four out of the top 10 7-seat cars in August 2026 were models manufactured by Mahindra, including an electric one
With the growing trend of family travel and adventure trips, 7-seat cars have become increasingly popular in recent years. While most automakers offer limited options in this segment, Mahindra is the dominant player with a wide range of choices.
In August 2026, four out of the top 10 seven-seat cars sold in India were from Mahindra. The Maruti Ertiga, with 18,516 units sold, remained the market’s top pick, with a meagre 0.4% year-on-year growth. However, Mahindra’s Scorpio was close behind, registering 15,576 units in sales and a solid 58.3% year-on-year growth.
The Toyota Innova series, comprising the second-gen Crysta and third-gen Hycross versions, stood third on the sales chart. Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 8,963 units of the two versions combined, which marked a 3.7% year-on-year decline. The fourth spot was occupied by Mahindra’s XUV7XO/XUV700, which registered 8,541 units in sales and a whopping 72.3% year-on-year growth.

The fifth position was also held by a Mahindra, the Bolero, with 8,159 units sold. Kia’s Carens/Carens Clavis ranked sixth, with 6,093 units sold. Compared to August 2025, sales were down 10.7%. The seventh-highest-selling 7-seat car in August 2026 was also a Mahindra, and interestingly an electric one – the XEV 9S. The XEV 9S is currently the only seven-seat electric car manufactured in India, although Tata Motors’ Safari.ev is said to join soon. Mahindra sold 4,508 units of the XEV 9S last month.
Ranking eighth was the Toyota Fortuner, with 3,504 units sold. Compared to August 2025, the body-on-frame D-segment SUV’s sales were up 39.7%. The currently sold second-gen model was launched in India in November 2016 and has since become 34% more expensive in the base configuration and 62% more expensive in the top configuration, yet it continues to be in strong demand.
The Maruti XL6 was the ninth-highest-selling 7-seat model, with 3,293 units registered. Sales were up 10.8% from August 2025. In the tenth spot was the Toyota Rumion, with 2,396 units delivered.
