Jeep Gladiator Could Come To India At Around Rs. 70 lakh

If launched, it could become Jeep’s first pickup for India, with a potential CKD assembly route

Jeep could expand its Indian portfolio beyond SUVs with the Gladiator lifestyle pickup. Stellantis recently held a press conference where it confirmed the model is being considered for the Indian market and could arrive relatively early in Stellantis’ upcoming product rollout.

The company has announced plans to introduce 12 new or updated models across its Jeep and Citroen brands over the next four years. While the individual models have not all been identified, Stellantis has confirmed that the line-up will include a premium pickup. The Gladiator is understood to be the likely candidate, although Jeep has not officially confirmed its India launch.

According to the announcement, Jeep is likely to bring the pickup to India through the completely knocked down (CKD) route, similar to its current approach with the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. CKD assembly would allow the company to bring the vehicle’s components into India for local assembly. However, Jeep has yet to confirm the proposed assembly arrangement or an India launch timeline. The Gladiator is currently offered in the US with a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine. This could be considered for India, with a four-wheel-drive system likely to feature if the pickup makes it here.

Another possibility is the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine used by the Wrangler. The two models share their platform, which could give Jeep an alternative powertrain option for the Indian market. Neither engine has been confirmed for an India-spec Gladiator. The Gladiator could carry an estimated price tag of around Rs. 70 lakh in India, based on its positioning alongside the four-door Wrangler in the US market. This is a reported estimate, not an official price announcement.

At over 5.5 metres long, the Gladiator is also larger than the Toyota Hilux, which measures just over 5.3 metres. Its size, potential pricing and off-road credentials would position it at the premium end of India’s lifestyle pickup segment. Potential rivals and alternatives include the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, while Mahindra has also announced the Scorpio Lifestyler. The Gladiator would occupy a more expensive niche if it arrives at the estimated price.

Jeep will also need a strong sales and service network to support such a specialised product. Stellantis says it is working on expanding its reach through its Brand House format, including in Tier 2, 3 and 4 markets.
